The creation of Aggie Park took an underutilized 20-acre parcel in the heart of the Texas A&M University campus and transformed it into a vibrant, multi-use green space. Located adjacent to the football stadium, the park was designed not only for substantial tailgating crowds, but also for year-round activation. The park features spaces for large celebrations such as an amphitheater, event pavilion and an event lawn as well as spaces for daily gatherings and relaxation such as study pavilions, a creamery, a 2-acre stocked pond, pedestrian pathways, and a hammock grove beneath heritage oak trees. Lighting was designed to be flexible to allow for this wide range of activities with controls that allow for daily use as well as huge concerts and televised events. Lighting also recognized the need to create different moods for different areas, including two significant catenary installations that weave starry orbs throughout the oak groves and the use of high mast, multi-circuited heads for the large event lawn. Of course, safety and maintenance were always at the forefront of consideration. Lighting throughout was designed to provide appropriate light levels free of glare and hidden shadows.
